Taikan Eguchi
1986Born in 1986 in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture.
2005Graduated from Saga Kita High School Art Course.
2009Started Buddhist statue carving in Kyoto at the age of 19. Graduated from Kyoto Saga Art University with a major in sculpture.
2014Held the first solo exhibition in Kyoto.
2015Received monastic ordination at home in 2015, with the dharma name “Taikan”.
2016Held a solo exhibition in Saga Prefecture.
2017Solo exhibition at Takeo City Library in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture.
2018Held a joint exhibition titled “Three-person Exhibition of Buddhist Sculptors and Japanese Painters” in Saga Prefecture.
2021Placed the Four Divine Beasts (Seiryu, Suzaku, Byakko, Genbu) at Aomori Prefecture’s Seiryu-ji, a temple of the Shingon sect of Koyasan. Organized an event titled “The World of Buddhist Sculptures Explained by Eguchi Taikan” at the head temple of the world heritage site Ninna-ji Temple. (Appearances on JR Tokai’s “Let’s Go to Kyoto” in November 2019 and December 2020.)
2021.8Held a solo exhibition at Gallery Kubota in Tokyo.
2021.9Held a solo exhibition at the Fukuoka City Museum.
2022.5Held a joint exhibition titled “Two-person Exhibition of Buddhist Sculptors and Japanese Painters” at Gallery Fujiyama in Saga City.
  • Member of the Japan Architectural Art and Craft Association.
  • Participated in the Shiga Prefecture Buddhist Sculptors Association’s New Buddhist Sculpture Exhibition every year since 2013.
  • Currently, operates a studio in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City.
